Kinesiophobia is a factor that hinders rehabilitation and actually prolongs disability and pain. Kinesiophobia can be a factor in increased time to return to participation in pre-injury activities. The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) that was developed in 1990 is a 17 item scale originally developed to measure the fear of movement related to chronic lower back pain.

The shortened version TSK-11 maintains items 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15, and 17 from the original scale, and its score range from 11-44. CHAMP 2011 - SILO of research documents

The original version of the TSK had 17 items. The Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK) was developed to measure fear of movement/(re)injury in chronic pain patients. Although studies of the Dutch adaptation of the TSK have identified fear of movement/(re)injury as an important predictor of chronic pain, pain-related avoidance behaviour, and disability, surprisingly little data on the psychometric properties of the original English version Objectives: The study aimed to test the construct validity, factor structure and reliability of the 11-item version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK-11, Swedish version) among older people (65+) with chronic pain.Design: Methodological study.Subjects: 433 participants with chronic pain (mean age 74.8, 65–98 years) completed postal questionnaires. 264 of the participants completed a 2002-12-01 2.2.5. TAMPA Scale of Kinesiophobia. The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11) was used to measure the level of fear of movement or reinjury.
